Francis Bruguiere [American.1879-1945]



A native of San Francisco, Brugiere settled in New York in 1905. There
he studied photography with Frank Eugene, became a member of the
»Photo-Secession«, and in 1919 photographer of the »Theater Guild«.
His portrait work followed the Pictorialist tradition. His »Abstract Stu-
dies» were begun in 1925 and continued, when Brugiere resettled in
London in 1928. After 1937 he stopped photographing to concentrate
on his painting and sculpture.
